Biography


Emma Waltraud Howes received the foundations of her training in Baroque Opera, Ballet, and Contemporary Dance before earning a BFA at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. Her MFA from Concordia University won her an international award to pursue research at the Bauhaus University, Weimar, Germany. Her process-based research projects incorporate gesture, soft sculpture, drawing, and video that result in projects intended for performance and interdisciplinary installations. Recent solo projects include Plastic Optimism (2010), Circuit-Est, Montreal; Subtle Architectures (2009), Dare-Dare, Montreal; The Transient Nature of Spatial Order (2009), Theatrehaus Jena, Germany.  She currently lives and works in Berlin.
